Cake Foundation Skills - 5 Day

In this fun and hands-on 5 day program you will learn the fundamental skills of cake decorating, food art painting and handmade sugar flowers. 

What you will learn:

  • preparing and understanding ingredients and equipment
  • demonstration of dark chocolate ganache  
  • the difference between RTR and gum paste with the use of tylose  
  • how to cut, assemble, sandwich and mask a round, square and tall barrel cake 
  • how to cover a round and square cake to achieve sharp corners 
  • how to cover a tall barrel cake 
  • how to stack a tall barrel cake securely using a centre pole  
  • how to transfer your stencil onto the cake 
  • introduction to airbrushing 
  • basic colouring techniques 
  • painting artwork with food colour onto the cake 
  • how to create themed cake toppers and decorations: 
    • sombrero hat
    • rocks 
    • cactus 
    • octopus tentacles 
    • pirate ship  
  • how to utilise left over dry icing 
  • how to create a sea like effect  
  • introduction to gum paste to create flowers and leaves  
  • how to assemble your sugar flowers with decoration wires and floral tape 

This is a hands-on course in which all students work on their own cakes,  all materials are included in the cost of the course.
